There are basically two types of sewing machines--mechanical and electronic. In mechanical sewing machines, also known as manual sewing machines, you set all of your machine setting. The settings are not automated, therefore you set up the stitch length and width yourself. Electronic sewing machines, sometimes called computerized sewing machines, are automated. All of the setting are automatically set for you. When you select the stitch you want to sew, the stitch length and width are preset for optimal performance but can be manually set to your preference.
